I have always enjoyed the way that shapes and patterns relate to each other. Painting in acrylics, and recently producing monotype and intaglio prints, I have been inspired in my work by shapes and patterns created by direct and reflected light falling on architecture and landscape. Sometimes these shapes and areas of color seem to take on an abstract quality. My interests are the contrast between light and shadow, the design or pattern in a subject rather than the content or theme in a painting, and the quality of the brushstroke and texture of the paint. Since I am also an avid hiker, enjoying the outdoors immensely, I have particular interest in portraying subjects and scenery that I have seen on the trail. There are no hidden meanings in my work, the world around me being my primary subject. I hope the viewer enjoys seeing the world through my perceptions.
